Injection of therapeutic substances into upper limb synovial sheaths and nerves

Corticosteroid injections are used to treat swollen or painful joints, which may be caused by an injury or arthritis.

The corticosteroid is injected directly into the joint. You may have a local anaesthetic by spray or injection to numb the skin first.

Direct cortisone injections into the elbow, shoulder, wrist, fingers, hip, knee, ankle and toes, are used to treat joint pain.

Corticosteroid injections are also used to painful tendons and a condition called bursitis (when a fluid-filled sac that acts like a cushion between bones and tendons becomes inflamed).

A corticosteroid injection may also be used to relieve muscle pain in a specific area of the body.
