Skin rejuvenation
Skin rejuvenation treatments use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment in high intensity bursts of visible light.
It is a non-invasive for rejuvenating your skin and to improve the appearance of your skin by a non-surgical method. IPL can be used to treat freckles, age spots, fine facial wrinkles, and other skin problems such as rosacea. It can also be used to treat visible red thread veins on arms and legs. The results are normally visible within a few days and continue for several weeks.
Which conditions can be treated with IPL?
- Sunspots or damage
- Pigmentation
- Spider or thread veins
- Fine wrinkles
- Freckles
How does IPL work?
Intense Pulsed Light treatment (IPL) stimulates the lower skin layers, encouraging the fibroblasts there to produce more collagen to strengthen and plump the facial skin. This helps to improve the texture and elasticity of the skin, reducing wrinkles, shrinking pores and giving the skin a firmer, fresher look.
How is the IPL treatment done?
IPL therapy is normally straightforward. Our surgeons, nurses and practitioners are experienced and well trained in IPL. You will have a consultation with discussion regarding your skin rejuvenation treatments, with a personalised plan suited to your needs. The smooth, glass surface of the IPL treatment head is applied to the area delivering precise pulses of light to the area being treated. Most patients can return to work immediately after treatment.
What are the risks?
A local anaesthetic gel may be applied to the area but is not usually necessary. A cold gel is applied to the area being treated. IPL devices often have integrated cooling systems and therefore, the treatment is usually well tolerated. Some may find it akin to a sharp pinch. IPL treatments are relatively painless compared to other facial rejuvenation techniques.
Does it hurt?
You will be advised to wear protective eyewear during the course of treatment.
What can I expect following treatment?
Skin rejuvenation treatments usually last about 20 minutes each. Avoid exposure to the sun and apply Sunscreen SPF 30-50 every 2 hours for the next two weeks. You may have mild swelling, redness or crusting for up to 5 days after treatment
How long does the treatment last?
A course of 4-6 sessions every 3-6 weeks may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
