Microneedling
Microneedling clinics offer treatments made using various microneedling devices including derma rollers, derma punches and derma pens.
The treatment consists of creating thousands of tiny punctures in the skin area being treated. The creation of these tiny punctures stimulates an increase in production of collagens and elastin which acts as a skin age reversing treatment.
Skin micro needling using devices such as derma-rollers and derma-pens stimulate repair and remodelling of the deeper layers of the skin. The degree of tissue remodelling is dependent on the baseline condition, tissue penetration depth and the number of treatments.
What can I expect following treatment?
Advanced microneedling requires a minimum depth penetration of up to 1.5mm and requires good anaesthesia which may involve small local anaesthetic injections. There is a social down time of up to 5 days following a full face treatment which is recommended even when specifically targeting one area.
Bruising and redness may occur and it is best to avoid touching the skin for 24 hours. Vigorous exercise, sauna and swimming are also best avoided for 24 hours. A mild discomfort may be felt for which Paracetamol can be taken.
What are the risks?
- Pain, bruising, bleeding (common)
- Inflammation (common)
- Skin pigment changes (rare)
