FAQs
How long is the waiting list?
Luckily you have discovered us at the very beginning of our inception, so there are limited waiting lists! You can usually be seen within 1 week for a consultation (sometimes same day!) and 2 weeks for surgeries or procedures.
I have a symptom but I’m not sure what it is or how to look for it. Can I still book a consultation?
Of course! We treat all eye conditions at VISIO Health (except for children), so please book a consultation here so our consultants can help you to find a resolution as quickly as possible.
Why don’t you have specific prices on your website?
Our surgeons and consultants charge their own fees; we do not control any of these, as we want freedom of choice for you! Due to these varying fees, we cannot give an exact price until you select a specific consultant and procedure. The best way to do this is by phoning us on 0800 032 2020 or emailing [email protected].
How early do I have to arrive for my appointment?
This depends on the appointment. You will receive clear instructions, via an encrypted letter to your email address, on when to arrive. Generally allow 15 minutes before a consultation and 45 minutes before a surgery or procedure.
Will I be able to eat before my surgery?
Yes, but only a light meal please!
I feel nervous about my surgery, what should I do?
From our experience, almost every single patient of ours has been incredibly nervous before cataract surgery. This is totally normal. So the first thing to realise is that you’re not alone. Everybody is in the same boat as you.
The second thing to know is that you are in very safe hands. Your consultant has done thousands of cataract surgeries in their time, and are experienced. They take the utmost care and consideration while performing surgery. They will be talking to you during the surgery, so you will not be left in the dark.
The third thing to know is that you do not feel or see anything. Your eye is completely numbed and you simply look at a bright shining light the entire time. A common concern is you will see everything. This is not the case.
The above is good to know, but it does not always help you to actually feel less nervous.
To help you to calm and regulate your anxiety we have created a Wellbeing program, through our VISIO Wellbeing service. We have partnered with professional life coaches/meditation practitioners to offer a free anxiety regulation session to all of our patients. If you would like to book a free call with one of our Wellbeing coaches, please email [email protected].
We truly believe that there are alternatives to taking relaxants such as diazepam (which are available also). Neuroscience has shown that meditation changes brain chemistry to enable calmness and regulation. Our Wellbeing team have also created a 5 minute meditation that you will listen to, while your eyes are dilating, before your surgery. You will have noise-cancelling headphones and no one will see you (there will be a partition). You will have the opportunity to listen to this and feel calmer on the day of your surgery.
We would love your feedback regarding the meditation and anxiety regulation session with our coaches. We are here to make sure you have the best experience possible, and that starts with listening to you and implementing your feedback.
We are doing things differently here, and we hope you experience that when you come through our doors.
Are premium lenses covered by my insurance for cataract surgery?
For cataract surgery, our premium lenses (anything other than monofocal) are not covered by most insurers. You will have to pay for these directly through us on the day of your treatment.
What is the lens fitting fee in cataract surgery?
The lens fitting fee covers the time, resources and finances required to source a cataract replacement lens for the eye, as well as dealing with the admin of ordering the lenses from abroad (Germany, if the lenses are from ZEISS) and returning any unused lenses.
Every consultant and surgeon charges their own lens fitting fee, which is not covered by any insurer. This will be billed separately through the consultant/surgeon, and we have no involvement with what prices they charge. Please liaise with them if you have any questions regarding this.
I have another question not listed here, what should I do?
Never hesitate to contact us over the phone (0800 032 2020), WhatsApp (08000 032 2020 or via email ([email protected]). You can also send us a message through our chat bot which pops up; it’s in the bottom right hand corner. We would love to help.
