Cutaneous cysts
A cutaneous cyst is a lump under the skin which can grow on any part of the body. It can be filled with air, fluid, or pus.
Most cutaneous cysts are harmless and grow slowly but they can become infected in some cases. Cutaneous cysts are more common in middle-aged females, if you suffer from acne, or if there is family history of cysts.
Cysts can occur on the face, upper body and neck as well as the scalp. Our team of skin specialists have a wealth of experience in removal of cysts for both medical and aesthetic reasons.
Pilar cysts
Pilar Cysts commonly occur on the scalp
Epidermoid or sebaceous cysts

Do I need cyst removal?
Most cutaneous cysts are harmless. However, there are some circumstances in which our Dermatologists would advise cutaneous cyst removal, and these include constantly catching on objects such as combs, hairbrushes or clothes. This leads to constant irritation and can cause the cyst to become inflamed or even infected.
Is the procedure painful?
The cutaneous cyst removal process occurs under a local anaesthetic which numbs the whole area so that you won’t feel any pain. The local anaesthetic might sting for a while when it first goes in. You may need to some pain relief for a few days following the procedure to manage any soreness.
How is a mole diagnosis done?
Moles are very common and majority of them are completely normal and harmless. If a mole starts to change in appearance or suddenly starts to itch, bleed or weep, a specialist, at a mole check clinic will assess whether these symptoms are a sign of skin cancer. Risk factors for developing skin cancers from moles includes having a large number of moles, family history, having fair skin and high levels of UV light with sun exposure. Skin cancers are more common with increasing age but one of the commonest cancers in young women is melanoma. Our team of skin specialists have a wealth of experience in mole removal treatment for both medical and cosmetic reasons.
